Roots of Equality got its start before the 2008 election putting together mini rallies because of the frustration we were feeling from No on 8’s lack of visibility.
From there, we decided to put together a large rally two days before the election. After the passage of prop 8, we felt compelled to put together a protest in our backyard again, this time protesting the Catholic Church’s involvement in the religious coalition that created and supported prop 8 by protesting in front of the LA Cathedral. We then decided to continue the feeling of community we had pulled together in Downtown LA to put together a mixer with a book drive to donate books promoting diversity to local schools and organizations.
